The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church with well over 2 million active members in almost every country of the world. The Legion of Mary began in Dublin, Ireland, on September 7, 1921 and has been active in the United States since 1931. It has been approved by the last 6 Popes and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council.
Through a balanced program of prayer and service, in union with the Holy Spirit as He operates through Mary, Mother of the Church, active members attend a weekly meeting of prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting. They perform a couple of hours of assigned weekly work in pairs. No one is required to do a work they are uncomfortable with or are unable to do. The Legion operates under the guidance of a Spiritual Director.
Works include various corporal and spiritual works of mercy which build up the Church and act as a means to evangelize and promote the Catholic faith.
The Legion of Mary at St Thomas More meets every Saturday at 10am in the Rooney Room. All practicing Catholics who are interested in growing in their faith and sharing it with others in the true Spirit of Christian discipleship are welcome and encouraged to join us.
The Legion of Mary encourages people to consider Total Dedication to Mary. For more information visit this link: www.totalconsecration.ageofmary.com
