Here is a list of items that we are working to complete at St. John Capistran and St. Thomas More church campuses.
St. John Capistran:
Since having the pine trees that caused damage to the roof removed, we are now signing the contracts to have the three sections of roof that were damaged by the trees repaired.
We are also in the process of getting a new baptismal font for the back corner of the church.
We are also going to plant new, healthy, appropriate trees where the pine trees once stood.
With the remaining Church Alive funds, we are going to work on renovations to Capistran Hall:
Upgrading all lights to LED fixtures
Paint the walls
Replacing the ceiling tile
Strip and wax the floors
Later, we will perform work on the offices and classrooms by upgrading the lights and ceiling tile.
We would also like to get security cameras installed and mag locks for the doors at St. John Capistran.
St. Thomas More:
Our primary concern is the parking lots, which have not been sealed or filled since the school opened in 2007, and are causing major issues. The curbs around the storm drains are not catching the rain water, which in turn causes potholes and cracking around campus. We need to have the curbs and storm drains repaired to prevent this water overflow. The expansion joints on the concrete sidewalks around the campus will also need to be repaired.
Upon completion of the parking lot projects, we plan to repaint all lines on each of the lots around campus. We will add speed bumps along Spirit Street, as well as add new signage to help control vehicle speed through the area.
Furthermore, we have been continually fixing our two 100-gallon hot water tanks for the last several years. Now, we need to replace one of the two water tanks this year. We will do the other tank next year.
We are going to move the Parish Library to a section of the Rooney Room so it is more accessible to the community, then convert the library to a multi-purpose meeting room.
We would also like to paint the walls where the stations of the cross are located.
In July, the electric panels will be replaced. We will have to shut St. Thomas More Church down for a few days while the work is being done. We very much thank you in advance for your patience during that time.
As you can see, there is a lot to be done! Thank you, as always, for your understanding as we work to maintain and improve our parish facilities.
