Today, Jesus reminds us that he is the good shepherd and we are the sheep of his flock. We hear his voice and we follow. Over the past few weeks we had a stellar production of “Godspell, Jr.” performed prayerfully by and with the great gifts and talents of our school children. We celebrated the wonderful gift of our parish children making their First Communion, joining us with joy and faith at the table of Our Lord. These are truly days of joy for us as we see the work of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, alive in our parish family.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day, today, we thank our moms for all of the ways they shepherd us in faith, in hope and in love. They are women of grace who listen to and hand on to us the voice of the Good Shepherd. Their dedication gives us strength. Their guidance gives us wisdom beyond compare. Their deep and abiding love calls us to that same unconditional love. Thank you, moms, for the great gift and blessing you are to all of us. You inspire us to greatness in all that you say and do.
So, today we ask God’s blessing upon all of our beloved mothers and all those women who shower us with love each day. May your day be filled with happiness and peace. May you know how much we do and always will love you. Composer Stephen Sondheim writes, “Careful the things you say, Children will listen. Careful the things you do, Children will see and learn.” We learn from you each day how to imitate, love and follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Happy Mother’s Day.
