• In today’s Gospel… Jesus says that he will never abandon us: “I will not leave you orphans.” He promises to send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth. And Jesus keeps his promises! The Holy Spirit is truly God’s presence in our lives and in our world. We received the Spirit at Baptism and at Confirmation. The Spirit is especially present in our lives each time we love. May our love for God and each other increase!
• Ascension Thursday… is this Thursday, May 18, and it is a Holy Day of Obligation. Please consult the Mass Schedule in today’s bulletin for the times and places of our Ascension liturgies. After Jesus’ post-Resurrection appearances, he ascends to heaven to be with his Father. But Jesus assures us: “I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
• Happy Mother’s Day… to all moms, who give so much of yourselves to your families! We also remember in our prayer today all mothers who have died. May they be rewarded for their kindness. Here’s a nice Mother’s Day prayer from the Church’s Book of Blessings:
Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
