Happy Birthday! Pentecost Sunday, which the universal Church celebrates today, marks the beginning of the ministry of the Church. Lumen Gentium, a constitution of the Second Vatican Council, reminds us, “When the work which the Father gave the Son to do on earth was accomplished, the Holy Spirit was sent on the day of Pentecost in order that He might continually sanctify the Church, and thus, all those who believe would have access through Christ in one Spirit to the Father.” (4)
As a result, we are called like the early apostles in the Acts of the Apostles, to be a charismatic community of believers who seek to boldly live out our faith. We are filled with the Holy Spirit from Baptism and Confirmation and have each been given unique gifts to grow in holiness and also to serve the Church.
On this Pentecost Sunday, we too should ask the Holy Spirit to help us develop our gifts, which are desperately needed in the Church. Not everyone has the same gifts, which is what makes the Church so rich, diverse, and beautiful. All are needed in the Church to build up the Body of Christ and lead others closer to Christ.
May the Holy Spirit help us to be a faithful group seeking to evangelize and serve! Come Holy Spirit!
Congratulations! This Saturday, May 18th, Resurrection Parish will honor all of our graduates at the annual Baccalaureate Mass and reception at 5:00 p.m. at St. John Capistran.
